LIM: A True Monogram?

Well, my card for the Less is More challenge this week, failed to hit the mark Sad smile.  It isn’t considered a monogram.  I think I can see why….but I’m confused by comments on other similar cards with words which are considered monograms.

monogram ( ) n. A design composed of one or more letters, typically the initials of a name, used as an identifying mark.

Right! No words!

IMG_0035This time I’ve taken my lead from Chrissie and gone for a wedding theme.

I’ve used Stampin’ Ups Concord Crush as my highlight colour and my lovely embossing folders to add dimension to the card.  I’ve used Elegant Wallpaper and Polka DOts from Stampin’ Up and my trusty cuttlebug swirls.  I’ve made a simple wedding cake card and added the initials of my friend and her fella on top.  I’m actually helping Kelly with her invitations…but I’d better not blog about that just yet.

So…hopefully this is a monogram.  I’m still loving the challenges, Chrissie and Mandi – even when I get it wrong! LOL!

  1. There has seemed to be much confusion this week Linda, with SO many LIMettes doing their own versions of monograms, despite the description we put on the top of the challenge.
When using letters like U for You it isn't strictly a monogram as the initial letter is the one which ordinarily would be used.
To have a complete word and illustrate or 'illuminate' one letter, still isn't a monogram as it's not representing the word if the word is actually there.
We've really opened a can of worms haven't we!!!
Love your wedding cake... You're right I think monograms are perfect for weddings...
I'm glad you're still enjoying the challenges despite all!
Thanks so much for this super second submission.

Im sure we have highlighted the fact on any cards using abbreviations, illuminated first letters, both of which aren;t monograms.

  5. Hi This is a fabulous and stylish card!!! ... with the monogram issue, the girls that set the challenge obviously have the right to say if a card fits the description of thier rules ..... however I have to say that I just LOVED your last card, I thought it was fun and an incredibly creative way of incorpirating a letter ... I loved the house that you created with the H and all the corrigated card, and I found it so so inspirational, and so I am glad you shared it with us!!! Hugs Juls
